(Hopefully Not) Lost in Translation
There is a fantasy series which caught my attention. Unfortunately, there's a slight problem....
My girlfriend, a lovely French woman (English speaking too!) from the North enjoys reading about as much as I do...perhaps even more so. We have similar tastes when it comes to reading, and we appreciate books themselves. She has read The Silmarillion. All of it. In French. In Grade 8. One of her favourite series is called Chevaliers d'Emeraude (or in English, The Knights of Emerald). It is a fantasy series written by French Quebec author, Anne Robillard. The thing is, I'm not quite fluent in French yet...and there's no English translated versions of the books published (yet.). I would love to get them in English, even if it's an ebook that someone else has translated 'unofficially'. [Sorry, Anne! I want to read your books but they don't exist in m language! Once they are released in English, as a book or ebook, I will get them 'properly'.] If anyone knows where I can obtain them in English, or is willing to translate all twelve, I would greatly appreciate it! Now there's a gift idea...If you are fluent in French and like fantasy, I suggest giving them a try. I haven't read them yet, but the point of this post is that I want to.

Heartbroken, Wellan will nonetheless have to come up with a plan to defend Enkidiev and repel the forces of evil...
Book 2 - Dragons of the Dark Emperor
Now nine years of age, the only thing Kira wants is to become a squire and learn to fight under the tutelage of a full-fledged knight so she can avenge the death of her parents to the hands of the Dark Emperor. But in order to protect her from the Lord of the Insect People, Wellan and Magician Elund turn her down. Deeply hurt, Kira decides to take her fate into her own hands. She conjures up the spirit of a Knight of Emerald who died hundreds of years ago and begs him to teach her how to use her weapons.
Unable to force his way into the continent by the coast, Amecareth finds a new way to introduce his dragons into the human territories and the Knights of Emerald with their new squires are forced to hunt down the monsters. At the same time, the Dark Lord sends his sorcerer to attack the soldiers and bring his daughter back to him.
Book 3 - Kingdom of Shodows
Now fifteen years of age and experiencing the first impulses of adolescence, Kira achieves her most cherished dream and becomes a Squire of Emerald. From then on, the purple princess goes on missions with the knights, marvelling at the immensity of Enkidiev.
The light bearer – the central character of the prophecy – is finally born on the continent and the Immortals must expend a lot of effort to protect him from the Dark Emperor.
Meanwhile, Wellan and his valiant knights rush to the aid of the hybrids of the Kingdom of the Shadows where they fall into a trap and are confronted with an enemy they never suspected.
Book 4 - A Rebellious Princess
Now nineteen years of age, Kira is finally knighted. She marries Sage of Emerald, unaware that he is possessed by the spirit of the renegade Knight Onyx. When the latter decides to take his vengeance on Abnar, Wellan and the Knights of Emerald must intervene so he will not destroy their immortal ally. Witnessing the duel, the knights are astounded by the powers that Abnar had bestowed upon these ancients soldiers.
When he becomes his old self again, Sage realizes that he has no recollection of the last four years of his life. Patiently, Kira teaches him all he has to know. In order to remain a knight, the young warrior will have to submit once more to Elund’s trials, but will he succeed?
During the celebrations in honour of Parandar, the greatest of all gods, an agonizing man rides into the courtyard of the Castle of Emerald and informs the knights that unknown creatures are decimating the coast. The valiant soldiers immediately rush to the rescue of the villagers. What trap has Amecareth set for them this time?

Letting their courage and their fairness be their only guides, the Knights of Emerald rush to the aid of the women and young girls abducted in the Kingdom of Cristal by lizards-like creatures and sailed away to a remote island.
Wellan only takes with him a few of his men, filling the others with dismay, since they will have to stay behind in Zenor. The chosen Knights of Emerald embark on this perilous mission with the Crystal Magician who has a few surprises in store for them.
Meanwhile, in the badly damaged Castle of Zenor, Dempsey has charge of the younger knights and squires, unaware that he will have to face another sorcerer of the Dark Emperor, even more cruel than Asbeth.
Wellan having forbidden his soldiers to communicate with him while he is infiltrating the island of the reptiles, Dempsey and his brothers-in-arms will have to handle this new enemy by themselves…
Book 6 - The Chronicles of Onyx
With the help of Kira, Wellan discovers the chronicles written by the renegade knight Onyx, in which he learns the fate that awaits his own soldiers if the Dark Emperor decides to adopt the same military strategy that he used in the past. Quite distraught, Wellan tries to obtain from the Crystal Magician greater magical powers for himself and his men.
Meanwhile, Asbeth launches a new attack on Enkidiev and the Knights of Emerald must once more rush to the aid of the inhabitants of the coast. During the rescue operation, Wellan finally has the opportunity to sort things out with the King of the Elves. It is also in the beautiful forests of the Elves that the gods present an invaluable gift to him.
Upon his return to the Castle of Emerald, Wellan is confronted with a diplomatic dispute. Will he have the savoir-faire required to solve this delicate problem?
Although armed with the information he found in the writings of the ancients Knights of Emerald, Wellan does not suspect that the enemy is much closer than he thinks…

Faced with the imposing task of assigning the squires to their new masters, Wellan soon realizes that there aren’t enough knights and that many of them are already training a squire. In order to give him a hand, Jenifael, Lassa and Liam decide to use an old spell that will greatly disrupt the life of the inhabitants of the castle.
Under pretext of seeing his village once again, Onyx agrees to take Sutton and his family to the land of their ancestors. But the renegade knight’s true purpose is to obtain a powerful weapon that the goddess Cinn has hidden in the most southern part of the kingdom. However, will he be strong enough to handle it?
The knights who have barely recovered from the unrest caused by the young culprits at the castle are attacked by an enemy coming from the sky. They are not without knowing that they are poorly equipped to defend themselves against fallen gods.
At the same time, troops lead by Asbeth make their way to the Castle of Emerald...
Book 9 - Danalieth's Legacy
The imperial troops land on the coast of Enkidiev in large numbers, forcing Wellan to divide his knights to slow down the invaders. While they are defending the Kingdom of the Elves, the Knights of Emerald capture a strange blue creature, unaware of its true purpose.
The new King of Emerald offers to provide Wellan with one of the weapons that Danalieth has created to help the humans defend themselves. Wellan finds it very hard not to accept this offer, since he has been looking for a way to increase his powers since the beginning of the invasion by the insect soldiers.
Wishing to help his father, Dylan learns a new way to locate ripples in the energy field of Enkidiev. However, as he attempts to use this new technique for the first time, he faces the resistance of a young woman who will change his destiny.
Against all odds, Elund’s prophecy regarding the return of a great hero is finally accomplished. But will this noble warrior arrive in time?

Having reached the end of their incubation period, the insect larvas buried in the ground all over Enkidiev are about to wake. After several years of a well-deserved truce, the Knights of Emerald prepare to face this new scourge. Determined to take revenge on Parandar, the fallen god Akuretari takes advantage of this diversion to hunt down the humans who are in control of Danalieth’s supernatural weapons. He will learn to his own cost that they are very resilient.

Share what you know with others who are also seeking mystical knowledge, but never reveal any part of it to those who have harmful intentions. Beware of those who seek to dominate or manipulate you. Be watchful of any person who tries to lead you away from your path for his or her own glory or personal profit. Never make fun of others, for you never know who might outshine you in wisdom or strength. Always make sure that your actions are honourable, for the help you offer will be returned to you a hundredfold. Honour all creatures that breathe, never destroy life unless your own life is in danger. Now repeat after me: I commit myself to follow in all honesty the rules of the Emerald Code and, with all the fervour and the courage that a true Knight possesses, I commit myself to ensure peace and justice on this continent and on every other territories undiscovered at this time. Characters
Knights of the First Generation
Wellan
Falcon is a Knight of the First Generation. He was born in a village of the Kingdom of Turquoise. Until the age of five, when he was taken to Emerald to become a Knight, Falcon bathed in the fantastic lore of his own people. This is why he still fears the dark and prefers to fight alongside his brothers-in-arms. He is not very tall, but he is slim and agile. He wears his black hair short and his eyes are light blue. He is gentle and romantic. He wants to marry one day and have children.
Chloe is a Knight of the First Generation. She is the youngest daughter of King Pally of Diamond. She is small but very strong. She wears her light blond hair above her shoulder and her blue eyes are sometimes so pales that they look transparent. She represents the feminine principle of her generation and brings much needed balance to the group. Although she wields the sword as well as her brothers, her first reaction is never aggressive. Her feminine nature urges her want to understand a situation before she makes any decision.
Jasson is a Knight of the First Generation. He was born in a small village of Pearl. He has retained from his younger years a penchant to have fun. His great caution shows in his light blue eyes. He was forced, at a very young age, to participate in the irrigation efforts of his people and quickly understood that human life is fragile. He does not like to play. He has a tendency to always see the practical side of things. Of all the Knight he is the one who knows how to calm down his companions. He is the best tracker.
Santo is a Knight of the First Generation. He is the youngest son of King Levon of Fal. Not very tall, he has curly black hair and dark eyes. Although he is a strong fighter, Santo is first and foremost a negociator. Quite sensitive to the feelings of others, he knows how to interpret what they are not saying and he knows exactly what to tell them to make them feel better. He has healing hands and he cannot bear to see someone suffer. His sensitivity is almost feminine and his poems are soft and comforting. He also plays the harp and he is a wonderful singer.
Bergeau is a Knight of the First Generation. He is the son of a Desert outlaw. He is the strongest of his brothers but he never uses his strength against his own kind. Quick-tempered, he says whatever is on his mind, but he is never mean. He has kept from his childhood years in the Desert a permanently tanned skin. He has short brown hair and bronze-coloured eyes. A smile perpetually floats on his lips.

Kevin is a Knight of the Second Generation. He was born in the Kingdom of Zenor. He has blue eyes and dark hair that he wears to his shoulders. He was Dempsey’s Squire and will later marry the lady Knight Maïwen. Kevin is stubborn, strong, a real survivor.
Nogait is a Knight of the Second Generation. He was born in the Kingdom of Turquoise. He has blue eyes and dark blond hair that he wears just below the ears. He was Jasson’s Squire and will later marry the Princess of the Elves. Nogait is funny, good-natured and smart.
Wanda
Wimme is a Knight of the Second Generation. He was born in the Kingdom of Diamond. He has black skin, dark hair and blue eyes. He was Falcon’s Squire and will marry the lady Knight Kagan. Wimme is calm, very focused and quite perceptive.
Bridgess
Bridgess is a Knight of the Second Generation. She is the daughter of King Giller of Pearl. She is tall and strong. She wears her medium blond hair long and has blue eyes. Thanks to a powerful spell, he was able to transfer his soul into his arms at the time of his death and survived until he found a new body. Onyx is a very intelligent man. He is ruthless on the battlefield. Once he will have quenched his thirst for vengeance, he will turn out to be a skilful manipulator. His true goals are to destroy the Crystal Magician and to become the next King of Emerald.
Abnar is an Immortal of a little more than 500 years old. He took the appearance of a man in his thirties to counsel the Knights. He has short brown hair and pale grey eyes. The gods have entrusted Abnar with the mission to help the humans to protect Enkidiev. He was quite young at the time of the first invasion by the insect soldiers and he believed that he should not have trusted the Knights of Emerald as much as he did. He is thus quite prudent with the latest incarnation of the Order.
Fan is the Queen of Shola and a master magician. She descends from Elves and Fairies. She has very pale skin, as white as alabaster, and her eyes and hair are silver. Fan gave her life to save her daughter, Kira. She now watches over her from the kingdom of the dead. Having magical powers as great as those of the Immortals, Fan will do anything to make sure Kira fulfils her destiny.
Dylan is an Immortal, son of Wellan and Fan. He has blue eyes and transparent hair. Quite independent, he often defies his guardians to visit his mortal family. He loves Enkidiev deeply and will often come to its rescue.
Theandras is the goddess of Ruby, protector of Wellan and his son. She has fiery eyes and long black hair. She will entrust her own daughter in Wellan’s care.
The people of Irianeth
Amecareth is the Emperor of the insect people. He bears the name of all the other emperors before him. He is an humanoid insect that walks on two legs. His skin is covered with a black carapace like that of scarabs. Instead of a mouth, he has powerful mandibles. His violet eyes are luminous and his pointed ears are pierced and adorned with countless pendants. He also wears rings on all his eight clawed fingers. They represent trophies of his former conquests.
Asbeth is a sorcerer and the half-breed son of the Dark Emperor. He is half insect and half bird. Covered in black feathers, he has talons at the tip of his wings and on his feet, an eagle like beak with sharp teeth and large violet eyes. Asbeth believes that he should be the one to ascend to the Emperor’s throne and he tries very hard to eliminate all possible rivals. Wellan of Emerald is his sworn enemy.
