The Tolkien Signature Paperback Collection: Master Listing

 

Recently, HarperCollins has been re-issuing most of the Tolkien titles in a new paperback style. Since that a vast majority of these share ISBNs with other covers, eventually the older covers will be replaced with the new. I wanted to provide head's up for that. If ordered via Amazon UK, Blackwell's, or Waterstones, you'll very likely have the newer/Signature cover. If possible, it may be best to actually visit the bookstore so you can see which one they actually have on their shelves.  

This post is a Master Post, collecting ISBNs of the titles released in this style. I have made them into 'groups' or 'sets' for ease of reference, as well as possibly assist in purchasing them, if one were to get more than one book at once. Where boxed sets exist, the 'collection Number' will replicate the titles contained in a boxed set. Over the course of time, this post will get updated. Once a new title comes to this format, I'll do a separate blog post focusing on that title; and provide it's ISBN, cover art, and description.

Enough of these have come out that I feel like that this would be great opportunity to address and collect this information. 

NOTE: once the cover artwork for a Signature Edition is revealed, it gets added to this blog post. It may take a few additional months for HarperCollins to send them out, and/or for the older covers to 'vanish.' 

When and where possible, try to physically a bookstore (Blackwell's, Waterstones....) to actually see the book. Most of these will use existing ISBNs, making recently-published Signature Editions a bit tricky to get via ordering online (you may get older stock.) Please bear this in mind.  

~UPDATE: Dec 2024~
Gave Collection VIII to 'paperback versions' of what's included in the Tolkien Treasury boxed set. In 2025, there's going to be a new paperback edition of Tree and Leaf that will likely get added to it. As the various titles come out in this style, some of them may move around with regards to collection number. It is my hopes and intents to group them together by 'theme.' This is why some 'Collection Numbers' towards the end may only have one title listed - it depends when you check this list, though I'm trying to 'group' certain collections together, as opposed to numbering & collecting them in a random sequence. This might 'throw off' some of the colours that the publishers have chosen for certain books, though I have my own reasoning for 'arranging' them as such.

Added On Fairy-Stories to Collection IX.

Currently, Collection VII, Collection IX, Collection X & Collection XI are 'works in progress' in relation to what future titles will be released in this style.  

~UPDATE: JUNE 2025
- Added 'Collection X' which will reflect the "Myths and Legends" boxed set (two more titles to be added to it) 
- Added A Secret Vice to Collection IX
- Added Collection XI (which as of now has The Story of Kullervo, but will likely include The Lay of Aotrou and Itroun, Finn and Hengest and The Monsters and the Critics).
- Note: any new covers added to this blog post between March 2025 & June 2025 will be available from anywhere from August - December. 
- Note 2: It's likely that Letters From Father Christmas will also come to to this style. Once/if it does, then The Road to Middle-earth will be bumped to another Collection, possibly to Collection XI, though (depending on what other title are around at that time) it may be Collection XII.
