2014 : A Year of Ice and Fire?

Image
I have a feeling that 2014 will be a big year for A Song of Ice and Game of Thrones . Here's why....

Beaten to the Punch - World of Ice and Fire update

A fellow blogger has posted this article  http://thewertzone.blogspot.ca/2013/05/update-on-world-of-ice-and-fire-update.html  about The World of Ice and Fire  book. Provides some good information, and is worthy of a look. In 2014 in the spring expect to see the first three 'Dunk and Egg' stories released in their own  anthology. Not sure if it will be hardcover, paperback, ebook etc... I'll keep you posted. No updates on The Winds of Winter , but I remain hopeful that it will arrive in 2014 sometime. Possibly even in Nov 2014 - Feb 2015 type timeline. After that, I'm hoping George will give us A Dream of Spring , anywhere from 2017-2019. We'll see. For now I'm looking forward to Dunk and Egg collection, World of Ice and Fire , and The Winds of Winter .  Other Game of Thrones / Ice and Fire  material: the season 3 finale will air June 9, the season 3 soundtrack will on itunes June 4 (and CD July 9), and A Dance With Dragons  will [finally] get ...

Another Delayed Dance

Those who read the Ice and Fire  backs in paperback only have a little bit longer to wait for Book five, A Dance With Dragons...

The World of Ice and Fire

Image
There are some updates from George R.R. Martin's Ice and Fire  series. Nothing significant like The Winds of Winter  news, but read on....

Another Sample from...."The Winds of Winter"

...the same day that The Wheel of Time  ends, George R.R. Martin posts this : http://georgerrmartin.com/if-sample.html George has this to say, from his blog entry announcing this: "Me, I have a lot more writing to do. On WINDS, and half a dozen other projects."

"The Ice Dragon" by George R.R. Martin

I have a book I can recommend to readers of adventure / fantasy, which may double as a Christmas suggestion. If you liked Narnia , The Hobbit , or other tales as a kid (though not just for  kids...), read further for one to check out, that goes with the winter season.

Waiting for 'Winter' : Tales of Dunk and Egg and more

Image
The Hedge Knight As you may well be aware by now, I can't wait to read The Winds Of Winter , the next book (Book Six) in George R.R. Martin's Ice and Fire  series. It won't be coming this year. Or next. But here are some other things by George R.R. Martin to whet your appetite...

Slight 'Winds of Winter' Progress Updates!

Image
Most likely my most anticipated materialistic item in the forseeable future, is Book Six of Ice and Fire , Winds of Winter by George R.R. Martin. Wouldn't you believe it, I have a slight update...

The Targaryen Conquest

One of the things that's neat about George R.R. Martin's Ice and Fire  books is the story moves forward and backwards (by a gradual reveal of the history before the books begin) at the same time. That said, consider this article a spoiler if you have not read Dance With Dragons  :  http://thewertzone.blogspot.ca/2012/09/the-full-story-of-targaryen-conquest-in.html  It goes into the story of the Targaryens, and will be part of the World of Ice and Fire  book due out in 2013. The URL for that blog is  http://thewertzone.blogspot.ca/  The poster covers the same areas I do here, plus more. It seems there's a post every 1-3 days. More 'full time' I suppose. There's some good articles there, have a look.

Dance with Dragons - paperback delayed!

Image
The paperback version of Dance With Dragons  by George R.R. Martin has been delayed. Initially, it was supposed to come out at the end of this August, but due to the hardcover being on the NYT bestseller list for 52 weeks (woot!) it's been pushed back until March 26, 2013. Please note, that Season 3 of Game of Thrones  starts on the 31st, so that may also be part of it. It will be in mass market paperback (the small size you can take with you easily in your purse or backpack), and the other paperback formats, which is as big as a hardcover...but it's 'soft' instead of 'hard'. And yes, it will include a preview of Book Six, Winds of Winter . I'll keep you updated once I find out more about the preview. I'm guessing that Book Six will be out in 2014 sometime.

A Quick Look on the Fantasy Horizon

Image
Well, there's a few fantasy books I'm waiting for. This quick little update tells what they are, and most like when they'll come.

"Winds of Winter": How's it coming along?

Image
This post will 'collect' all info that is out there on the web at this point on Ice and Fire  Book Six, Winds of Winter . Courtesy mostly of WikiPedia. It goes without saying that if you haven't read the first five, spoilers are head...Well, mild.

Upcoming George R.R. Martin

Image
Nope it's not Winds of Winter , or even the Dunk and Egg collection (yet, though I think we'll get that before Book Six of Ice and Fire comes out), but there are some George R.R. Martin stuff coming up for fans.

Done

Image
At long last, I've finished reading Dance With Dragons (Book Five of Ice and Fire) by George R.R. Martin. Great book, better than Book Four. They're all good, really. I don't get the negativity. Should it have been 200-300 pages shorter? Perhaps. But it's George's series, not mine, and I've been reading and savoring each book, chapter by chapter, for a little over a year now. Now the wait begins for the next book. I have tons of other books to read, though.  Now, onto....

Dance With Paperbacks

This post will be about Song of Ice and Fire  Book 5, Dance With Dragons ' North American / Bantam release.....

Author Spotlight: Bernard Cornwell

Image
That time again to do another author / series spotlight. After mentioning George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire  series (which the HBO series Game of Thrones is based on); Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time ; and Brandon Sanderson's brand-new Stormlight , I had uncovered another author and series I wish to recommend.

The Best Series Ever

Image
I've covered a few areas so far in this blog, including & mostly books and reading. This is another entry in that tradition. This time, I'm going to tell you about my favorite series. Ever.
