Out to Buy: "Game of Thrones: Season 4"

Image
The day is finally here - Game of Thrones: Season 4 is now out on blu-ray! Most of the fans have most likely seen these episodes when they aired on HBO, or through other means, but now you can officially own all the episodes of season 4, plus lost of  extra goodies. So for those that buy the show on blu-ray, your pre-orders should be coming in anytime. You can buy the set pretty much anywhere that sells blu-rays. I also suspect that the season is on itunes by now, too. Makes waiting for season 5 a bit better (if you will be watching it 'this year'. If not, the blu-ray should be out around this time next year), and for the book readers, it will kill a little bit of time until Book Six.

Hold!!

The Hobbit: Part 3  is pretty much headed out of theaters, and should be arriving on DVD / blu-ray etc in a few months. Some web sites, such as Amazon, are offering it up as pre-orders. But, as is custom, this will * NOT * be the extended edition. I am holding out for the extended edition trilogy box set on blu-ray myself, which should come out the same day as the rest of the extended editions for Part 3 . The theatrical version will be arriving on DVD, blu-ray, 3D blu-ray and digital. As of now, there is no trilogy set. This post is to let you know that there is a better version of the film coming out a few months later - just like with The Lord of the Rings , and the first two Hobbit  films.

"Exodus: Gods and Kings" - Bad at the Theater....Better at Home?

Image
Unfortunately, one of the movies I am looking forward to seeing, Exodus: Gods and Kings  got attacked by 'the critics'. Generally, that does not affect how I feel towards a film, nor do i pay that much attention to it. But it's at 27%  at the moment (top critics) on Rotten Tomatoes. I am sure I will still see the film, but perhaps not in theaters. Something similar happened with Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven, where the 'director's cut' on DVD was a vastly superior film (thanks to the success and footsteps of The Lord of the Rings  extended editions) which in fact, made the film pretty amazing. Likewise with Robin Hood , although there was not drastic enough difference between the unrated and theatrical. And, I saw this on Wikipedia: "I n an interview for  Access Hollywood , Scott claimed there was a "final" cut of the film that was 4 hours,   implying that the version released in theaters was reduced by 90 minutes." So I shall be...

This post is for those who actually liked The Hobbit (Part 2) , and have an interest in the trilogy's extended editions.

Out to Buy: "True Detective" Ssn 1

Today the first season of HBO's newest and (second) great show at the moment is now out to buy on blu-ray, itunes etc....I'm talking about True Detective . I sense strong Emmy and Awards potential for this one.

Out to Buy: "Breaking Bad" Complete Series blu-ray

Image
Today is finally the day for me - Breaking Bad Complete Series blu-ray is now out to buy! The blu-rays for each season have been out for a while, but I wanted to get all the episodes in one shot. I'm aware that there was that collector's set, but it was over priced, and as much as I enjoy the series, I only wanted the episodes , nothing else. I'm hoping Amazon will ship it soon!

Wait for Desolation

On  April 8 ,  The Hobbit (Part 2)  is coming out to own on DVD, blu-ray, etc... but don't buy it!   Much like  Part 1 , as well as the  Lord of the Rings  films, the theatrical version is being released first, followed by an extended edition, later in the year. The extended edition features much more comprehensive special features, as well as a longer version of the film, which will breathe more life into Tolkien's world.  Return of the King  was almost an all-new film, whereas the  The Two Towers  explained and elaborated on some of the changes made by Peter Jackson, as well as why they were made.   I haven't seen the extended edition of  The Hobbit (Part 1)  yet, as I'm holding out for an extended edition trilogy set of all  The Hobbit  films, which will most likely be all three extended editions that exist (then) merely boxed up together. Should it be released. If for whatever reason ...

Out to Buy: "Game of Thrones" Season Three

Image
Today, legally, the third season of the HBO series Game of Thrones (based on the book series, A Song of Ice and Fire, by George R.R. Martin) is released on blu-ray and itunes. It is based on Steel and Snow .  For those who have an HBO cable subscription, Season Four begins airing on April 6 . The new season will cover Blood and Gold, as well as some early elements of A Feast for Crows (if you want to match up the books to the HBO series). To get all the books that are currently out (there is more to come. This series is currently incomplete) , go here: http://www.bookdepository.com/Song-Ice-Fire-George-R-R-Martin/9780007477159

For those of you who don't have HBO and are  Game of Thrones  fans, today is a great day for you.

Winter is Coming to DVD & Blu-ray

Image
Yesterday, season 1 of Game of Thrones came out to buy on DVD and blu-ray. If you're a fan, or you don't have HBO, or if you like: Gladiator or The Tudors, give it a shot. Please don't let HBO end it like they ended Rome and Deadwood. Oh, and that is of course if you're not participating in Black March. If you are, Black Friday & Boxing Day sales near the end of the year should be awesome. As for me, I'm going to wait for the series to end to get the massive complete series box set.
