"The Slow Regard of Silent Things" Released Today

Image
Fantasy fans are in for another treat today, as a new Kingkiller Chronicle story by Patrick Rothfuss (this is not  Book Three!) is released in hardback (and ebook).  Since i have the first two books in (trade) paperback, I will also get this one in that format, so I have about 6-12 months before this is released in likewise. I'm hoping by then, there will be an update about Book Three. In the meantime.... Deep below the University, there is a dark place. Few people know of it: a broken web of ancient passageways and abandoned rooms. A young woman lives there, tucked among the sprawling tunnels of the Underthing, snug in the heart of this forgotten place. Her name is Auri, and she is full of mysteries."The Slow Regard of Silent Things" is a brief, bittersweet glimpse of Auri's life, a small adventure all her own. At once joyous and haunting, this story offers a chance to see the world through Auri's eyes. And it gives the reader a chance to learn things th...

Amazing Author Interviws: Patrick Rothfuss + Brandon Sanderson

Rothfuss: Heya Brandon.  Sanderson: Hey there, Pat. Nice talking with you again.  Rothfuss: Thanks for being willing to do this. I know you're insanely busy these days. Okay. Let me just jump right in here with a question. How long was Way of Kings ? I heard a rumor that the ARC I read was 400,000 words long. It didn't really feel like it…  Sanderson: Let me see. I will open it right now and word count it, so you have an exact number. It’s 386,470 words, though the version you read was an advance manuscript, before I did my final 10% tightening draft, which was 423,557 words. I didn’t really want it to be that long. At that length we’re running into problems with foreign publishers having to split it and all sorts of issues with making the paperback have enough space. I didn’t set out to write a thousand-page, 400,000-word book. It’s just what the novel demanded.  Rothfuss: Wise Man's Fear ended up being 395,000 words. And that's despite the...

From Pat's Fantasy Hotlist "Thanks to the cool folks at Bantam, here's an extract from  Rogues , a new anthology edited by George R. R. Martin and Gardner Dozois."  I myself will be getting the ebook (should Kobo ever post it to their site for pre-order...) Here's the preview of "The Lightning Tree" by Patrick Rothfuss:

Spring into Fantasy

Image
Well, the weather is for the most part much nicer. That means more reading, potentially outdoors for those who like to take books or e-readers outside. The books I recommend throughout my blogging history won't change much. I may highlight certain genres or authors or series from time to time, but this season let's spring into some fantasy. You all know how much I like George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series by now...so I won't talk about it that now. All you need to know is that the name of the first book is called A Game of Thrones. I'm going to recommend a few other fantasy titles for you to check out. I promise you'll most likely like them: THE KINGKILLER CHRONICLE (Trilogy) by Patrick Rothfuss The Name of the Wind The Wise Man's Fear Book 3 (being written) THE DAGGER AND THE COIN by Daniel Abraham The Dragon's Path The King's Blood The Tyrant...
