Today is a big day for fans of fantasy - Oathbringer , the third book in Brandon Sanderson's 10-book Stormlight series is published today. Sanderson is one of the best new(er) authors in fantasy, proving himself with a strong debut ( Elantris ) the Mistborn series, and now with Stormlight. The first two books, The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance , have both been well-received. The Stormlight series is a different type of fantasy, with immense world-building and lore. It is the spiritual successor to The Wheel of Time series. They are both apples and oranges, however Stormlight follows down the path that The Wheel of Time began. They are not related by any means, I mean to say that the vein of fantasy is close. Please note that you can't (and shouldn't) compare Sanderson with Martin, or Stormlight with Ice and Fire / Game of Thrones. So whether or not you've read The Wheel of time, if you like fantasy period, be sure not to miss the Stormlight series. Book...

Earlier today, Brandon Sanderson sent out a sample chapter from book 3 of Stormlight  ( Stones Unhallowed? Skybreaker?) via his newsletter. I have copied and pasted it from his newsletter into a post below.

Today, a new Stormlight story was unveiled. Is it a short story / novella / etc? Is it from Book 3 (or another book yet to come)? Either way, if you have not yet read Words of Radiance, here be spoilers after the jump.

Well, the weather is for the most part much nicer. That means more reading, potentially outdoors for those who like to take books or e-readers outside. The books I recommend throughout my blogging history won't change much. I may highlight certain genres or authors or series from time to time, but this season let's spring into some fantasy. You all know how much I like George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series by now...so I won't talk about it that now. All you need to know is that the name of the first book is called A Game of Thrones. I'm going to recommend a few other fantasy titles for you to check out. The second book in Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight series is out today, in some formats such as ebook. Paperback editions will most likely follow about a year from now. Actually, speaking of paperback, the first book, Way of Kings , got released in an attractive larger-trim paperback today also. In addition to the massive sampling I did a while ago (collected all the sample chapters that were released into one blog post, linked below), here are all the "Glimpses of Radiance" released up to the book's launch as a tease. Brandon Sanderson has completed Words of Radiance, the second book in his Stormlight  series. It will be released on March 4  in hardback, ebook, and audio editions.  For those who missed my posts on social media in the wee hours of the morning last week, I have finished the final draft of Words of Radiance , second volume in the Stormlight Archive. We turned the manuscript in to Tor, and they printed the thing off and showed how big it is in this blog post  here . They also released one of the  interludes on their site for free, as a preview. Enjoy! In order to make sure  Words of Radiance receives all the care it needs to become the perfect sequel to  The Way of Kings that we all want it to be, Brandon Sanderson has requested more time to work on the novel. As such, the release date has been tentatively rescheduled for March 4th. After receiving notes from his editor and his agent, Sanderson is hard at work on the second draft of his fantasy epic. He expects to complete several more drafts before the novel is ready for production, in order to make sure  Words of Radiance  is up to the high standard set by the first volume in the saga.
