Well, it's time of year again - the Oscar nominations have been announced! The Golden Globes are essentially a 'road map' to the Oscars (and the Emmys, I guess). Either way, here they are and who I would like to each category I am interested in, where applicable. 

The winners of the 2014 Goodreads Choice Awards have been announced! They were selected by users who voted in a serious of rounds. It's that time of year again...time for the Goodreads Choice Awards! you get to vote on the year's best in a series of rounds to determine the winners in various fields. It's all user-selected. Begin here:  http://www.goodreads.com/choiceawards/best-books-2014 The opening round lasts until November 8. Then, Semifinals are November 10-15. The finals are November 17-24.  There appears to some restrictions - it seems this year it's US based. For example, I was wanting to vote on Tolkien's Beowulf  in the poetry section. Yet, The Fall of Arthur  won it last year. And, Ken Follett's Edge of Eternity  is a nominee this year. Doesn't make sense to me. 

The Emmy nominations have been announced, and here they are, with my thoughts: Drama series Breaking Bad , AMC Downton Abbey , PBS Game of Thrones , HBO House of Cards , Netflix Mad Men , AMC True Detective , HBO All of these are great choices!! Comedy series The Big Bang Theory , CBS Louie , FX Modern Family , ABC Orange Is the New Black , Netflix Silicon Valley , HBO Veep , HBO I think Orange is the New Black will take it. Actor, drama series Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad (AMC) Jeff Daniels, The Newsroom (HBO) Jon Hamm, Mad Men (AMC) Woody Harrelson, True Detective (HBO) Matthew McConaughey, True Detective (HBO) Kevin Spacey, House of Cards (Netflix) Oooh tough call..... Bryan Cranston, either of the Detectives , or Kevin Spacey will win.  Actress, drama series Lizzy Caplan, Masters of Sex (Showtime) Claire Danes, Homeland (Showtime) Michelle Dockery, Downton Abbey (PBS) Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife (CBS) Kerry Washington, Scandal (ABC) Robin W...

It's that time of year again .

The Oscar nominations are out! The list of nominees, and my thoughts, await!

Sci-fi & fantasy giant, Locus, has recently named the best novels of the sci-fi & fantasy (and short story, novellas etc..) of the 20th and (so far, but not sure how 'recent') 21st century. A good deal of them have been nominated, or won, Hugos and / or Nebula awards. I myself am going through the list to see what interests me, and adding it to my Goodreads reading list.
