Episode 40 ("Game of Thrones") spoiler-free Review

Wow, what an episode! And what a way to end the Game of thrones Episodes for 2014.

Episodes 31-40 could have easily been the show's best bunch yet. There were strong moments throughout them, and they ended Episode 40 quite well. Also, as a book reader (you know, "Based on A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin during the opening credits and all...) I was immensely pleased. I also noticed that the HBO series is noticably diverging from the book series. Before, these changes were minor. Now, they are noticeable. But they are in good taste and make sense. They don't just change it for the sake of changing it like The Walking Dead.

But are they bad? Not for these Episodes. Episodes 11-19 were a tad weak due to change, (well, in part) but this year's Episodes and last year's Episodes solidify the show's greatness.

I have every confidence in George R.R. Martin, but I'd rather read what happens next as opposed to seeing it. that being said, seeing it is some very nice eye candy indeed. Waiting till next spring for more Episodes is nothing. Try waiting about 3-5 years for books. Yes, that's right - the book series isn't over yet. The author is at work on Book Six, The Winds of Winter, and wrap the series up with one more book after that.

I give Episode 40 an extremely solid

9.5 / 10

And Episodes 31-40 as a whole
9 / 10

Game of Thrones continues to be one of TV's best shows (or, the best it has at the moment), and there are lots of things that make it 'work.' Some book fans may be nitpicky, but remember - "Based on A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, not based on 'Book X'.
