The Avatar Films: A Welcome Change From the Rest

We go to the movies to be entertained. Indeed, movies/films/cinema...whatever term you wish to use, is ultimately a form of entertainment. Indeed, it can be - and is also - a form of art

We all know that the story of Avatar (the first film) has been done, and is one we're familiar with over time: Pocahontas, Dances With Wolves, Fern Gully.... The story and plot of a movie is quite important and the very soul of a film; though with the Avatar films.....that's not the main focus.

The main focus of the Avatar films is to be fully immersed in a fictional setting. Indeed, the story of the first film is one we're familiar with. However, it is the details that truly make the movie. An entire language and culture was created. As was the ecosystem, with flora and fauna - everything you see, has a name. Such lengths and details weren't requited to create such a dazzling spectacle....but they were. Anyone familiar with James Cameron as a filmmaker knows that he is meticulous, and a perfectionist. He's had most of the Avatar films sketched out to some degree dating as far back as the '90s. When he saw Gollum in The Two Towers, that was when he realized that the filmmaking technology had advanced to the point that he could begin making the Avatar projects.

Over the course of time, via interviews, news articles etc, we went from having one Avatar movie, to 3, and now to 5.

People often say that there's no good movies, or we're in a slump etc. Maybe we are. With the needless live-action, copy + paste unnecessary remakes of animated films, remakes/reboots in general, superhero movies (I like them and only watch the ones that interest me, though it's slightly annoying to only look forward to those), the Avatar films feel like a creative breath of fresh air.....even if the story might be the weakest aspect.

I'm along for the ride, and I look forward to seeing Avatar 3-5 (this December, December 2029, and then December 2031). Once the franchise is finished, I might buy them, even though they'll all be on Disney+. It depends on price, what the special features offer, etc. It'll also be neat if once all 5 are out if they'll be remastered so that the first one won't appear dated with regards to the visual effects when compared to 2-5.

I look forward to what will Pandora (and eventually, Earth....?) will offer us next, and wish James Cameron the best of luck on a creative level for completing his vision.
