New Harry Potter Boxed Set Announced

It was announced earlier this week that Bloomsbury will publishing a boxed set of the currently-available Harry Potter books in hardback. (see image above).

The ISBN for the new set is
9781526676511. The description follows:

A stunning wizarding package for readers to enjoy - the complete collection of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter adventures presented in hardback, with fun character stickers!

This starry book trunk, decorated with magical owls and postmarks, is the ultimate way to escape to Hogwarts! Seven beautiful hardbacks are collected inside, featuring spectacular cover illustrations by Jonny Duddle, as well as quizzes, listicles and fun facts at the back of each story. This special delivery arrives in a protective cardboard sleeve and also includes a sheet of colourful stickers. There's even a special name label for readers to personalise their own Harry Potter set.

J.K. Rowling's unmissable series has sparked a lifelong reading journey for children and families all over the world - Harry's adventures alongside his friends Ron and Hermione are filled with wonder, spells and surprises. This Owl Post box set is a little flash of magic in book form; a collection to grow up with, read and re-read, treasure and keep. Get ready to lose yourselves in the greatest children's story of all time

It is being published in August.

This looked familiar to me, as my national bookstore, Indigo, had a similar Exclusive Edition of this very set.

The Indigo Exclusive Edition was published in October of 2023, and features the follow description:

A stunning wizarding package for readers to read and enjoy – the complete collection of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter adventures presented in hardback, with fun character stickers! This starry book trunk, decorated with magical owls and postmarks, is the ultimate way to escape to Hogwarts! Seven beautiful hardbacks are collected inside, featuring spectacular cover illustrations by Jonny Duddle, as well as extra quizzes, listicles and fun facts at the back of each story. This special delivery arrives in a protective cardboard sleeve and also includes a sheet of colourful stickers. There’s even a special name label for readers to personalise their own Harry Potter set. J.K. Rowling’s unmissable series has sparked a lifelong reading journey for children and families all over the world – Harry’s adventures alongside his friends Ron and Hermione are filled with wonder, spells and surprises. This Owl Post box set is a little flash of magic in book form; a collection to grow up with, read and re-read, treasure and keep. Get ready to lose yourselves in the greatest children’s story of all time … Seven magical stories, one epic adventure.

However, the Indigo Exclusive Edition has an ISBN of
9781526666932. As to what the differences are (barring publication dates and ISBNs) between the two, I'm unsure!

The editions contained in both are these:

Philosopher's Stone:
9781408855898
Chamber of Secrets:
9781408855904
Prisoner of Azkaban:
9781408855911
Goblet of Fire:
9781408855928
Order of the Phoenix:
9781408855935
Half-Blood Prince: 9781408855942
Deathly Hallows:
9781408855959

So the books themselves are the standard hardback editions - though the set offers some new goodies.

The editions in this new set were initially collected in the above boxed set, with ISBN
9781408856789. It remains to be seen how available the above red one will become after the Owl Post one becomes available. It's possible that they'll stop doing the red one because the Owl Post set will be newer, and have the same books in it. I wanted to make that observation, in case anyone is set on getting the red one. Also, another point, is that the red one is cheaper than the Owl Post one....

A Harry Potter boxed set is never a bad gift. I'll wait a little bit to see how the reviews and unboxing videos are before I recommend this particular boxed set for my Christmas Suggestions later in the year. No matter how they're packaged, which ones I suggest, or which ones you choose, the current standard hardback editions are recommended.
