THE HOBBIT: Illustrated by the Author Edition [Speculation + Fanmade Mockup]

The above image was created by Astral_Taurus on reddit on the tolkienbooks reddit, so first: many thanks for your work, and posting that.

This is essentially how I would see an edition of The Hobbit to fit in with the new 'illustrated by the author' series by HarperCollins. This began last year with The Lord of the Rings, and continued this year with The Silmarillion. So, next year would be The Hobbit....?

Going by how the other two titles looked, here's how I envision The Hobbit appearing, and having:

- the colour of the foil on the spine, the cover, and page-edging would be bronze, or copper.

- the 'main' colour of the book would be a nice, dark, emerald (much like in the photo above). This would also used for the coloured ink inside the book, as well as the ribbon-marker.

- the same booklet about The Hobbit that came with the Facsimile Gift Set a few years ago (though perhaps with a different cover image to best suit this release.)

- large posters of Thror's Map and Wilderland.

- art prints of The Hill, Rivendell, Bilbo woke....., Raft Elves, Smaug, and the design of the dustjacket.

- all interior artwork in full colour.

- The design and layout of the book and slipcase, including the 'hole' would be quite similar to the slipcased edition of 2004 - much the same way that the 2021 Lord of the Rings had similar imagery to its 2004 counterpart.

- a CD featuring all recordings of Tolkien from the book. In The Tolkien Audio Collection and the CD that came with the Facsimile Gift Set there may be some overlap, though having a disc or two of all the readings would be a cool bonus.

In my head it was easier to picture and imagine how the slipcased edition could look and what it could feature than it would be for the lower-tier standard edition. This could be because of the fact that the standard edition would be similar, in ways, to the 70th Anniversary Edition hardback.

As of this writing, that's all I can think of to cover such a release. A 'feature' or two may pop into my head, but that's the overall gist of how I can a matching, slipcased, Illustrated by the Author Edition appearing, and featuring.
