A little different than who I voted for overall. Congrats to the winners and
nominees. Who knows, someday some of my stuff may make it to Goodreads…
Before I close, I oft talk about books I like. Well, now I’ll mention some that I’m
not a fan of:
Twilight series (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn) – These are just
bad, and badly written. No, I’m not saying that because I’m a male in his 20s or
anything like that. Just look at how selfish and hopeless Bella is in the second
book. She’s a weak, passive female lead who does way too much “flinching”. Had
these books featured actual vampires and werewolves, and the female lead was
stronger or more bad ass, than my dislike would not be as strong. Heck, I may
even liked them. I’m not asking for Buffy, just a series where the focus is not ‘if
you have a boyfriend’s everything great, and let him do what he wants, and if you
don’t have one, it’s the end of the world.’ Great message for teen girls who are
growing up and feel oh so much pressure nowadays.
Dan Brown – good ideas, but your writing isn’t very good and after a few books,
gets very formulaic.
Nicolas Sparks – is it your goal to try and make us weep with every book you
write?
Fifty Shades (Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker, Fifty Shades Freed) –
would she let him do that to her?? Another series where the man is super macho
and ‘controls’ the woman…and she is helpless and completely receptive to it.
