In a chair in a theatre....

Today tickets for The Hobbit: Part 1 went on sale...and I got mine. There are many theatres chains, services to get your tickets. Online is most likely the easiest and best through that theatre's website. Of course, there's always visiting the theatre itself.
I got mine through Empire Theatres (Canadian Chain) for the "The Empire Extra" version. Reserved seats. It's pretty sweet - bye bye line-ups.

This film is available in a variety of formats. Courtesy to TheOneRing.net for providing this list of what's where : http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2012/11/07/64780-complete-listing-of-theaters-showing-hobbit-hfr-3d-imax-3d-imax-dolby-atmos/  All in all, make sure you see the film theatrically...as movies such as these is why we (still) have movie theatres.

If you're not sure what HFR is....

Frequently Asked Questions about High Frame Rate 3D (HFR 3D):

What is High Frame Rate 3D (HFR 3D)?

Frame rates are the number of images (frames) displayed by a projector in one second. 24 frames per second (fps) is the current standard in cinemas worldwide. HFR 3D productions of 48 fps record and play visuals at twice the current rate.

Is it film or digital?

HFR 3D has been developed as digital technology.

Why do it?

This additional motion picture format provides another option in the movie theater for each consumer’s taste. Peter Jackson is pushing the boundaries of new filmmaking technologies on The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and shot the film on HFR 3D, so it is being released in that format in addition to traditional formats.

Is HFR only available in 3D?

Yes. The HFR version of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be available in 3D only.

Do I get a choice?

Yes. The film will be released in multiple formats, including 2D, 3D, IMAX 3D and HFR 3D. Check our showtimes pages by choosing a format above for your location's availability.

Do I need special 3D glasses to view?

The glasses supplied to you by the theatre for standard 3D presentations can also be used for HFR 3D presentations.

Here's the preview

And finally, some teaser lines from Lord of the Rings: Part 1

Frodo: Before you came along, we Bagginses were very well thought of.

Gandalf: Indeed?

Frodo: Never had any adventures or did anything unexpected.

Gandalf: If you're referring to the incident with the Dragon, I was barely involved. All I did was give your uncle a little nudge out of the door.

Bilbo: "There I was, at the mercy of three monstrous trolls! And they were all arguing amongst themselves about how they were going to cook us, whether it be turned on a spit or whether they should sit on us one by one and squash us into jelly. They spent so much time arguing the wither-tos and why-fors, that the sun's first light cracked over the top of the trees — poof! And turned them all to stone!"

Gandalf: "Bilbo had a shirt of Mithril rings that Thorin gave him."

Gimli: "Oh, that was a kingly gift!"

Gandalf: "Yes! I never told him, but its worth was greater than the value of the Shire."
