2012 - A Look at the New Year
Well, here we are - 2012. The year the world is supposed to end. I doubt very much it will, but still...cross your fingers in case, eh? Anyway, this blog post is a look at the upcoming things I'm looking forward to within the new year...
Game of Thrones Season 2
"The Night is Dark and Full of Terrors". "The Cold Winds Are Rising." One of these two (or something else) will be the tagline for HBO's second season of Game of Thrones. Those familiar with the books will know what to expect. No, I won't spoil anything here, but expect the characters who survived season 1 to return, the 'focus' on some minor ones to turn into main roles; as well as new characters & new locations.
Dexter Season 7
Dexter has been renewed for an extra 2 seasons (7 & 8). Given with how season 6 ended, that's a requirement. How long will Dexter goes before it ends? It's a great show, but I don't want it to run too long and get old or something. What I'm hoping for, is that they'll stop at 8 seasons. Season 7 will end in such a way that whatever happens will carry into season 8. Most seasons of Dexter have an 'arc' that is contained mostly within a season. We'll see what they do, but it's one of my favorite series, and looking forward to seeing what's going to go down.
Boardwalk Empire Season 3
One of the better shows on HBO (though opinions of it has changed during the second season), after the events at the end of season 2, perhaps now they can focus on Al Capone??
Walking Dead - Rest of Ssn 2, and Ssn 3
It's a terrific show, and I've got one of the comic collections (haven't read it yet). It's definitely one of the best shows on TV; and wondering where the group goes next, how and why they get there, and obstacles they face along the way make for not only some good action sequences, but suspenseful drama also.
Mad Men Season 5 (and 6?)
Season 5 is long overdue. Originally, it was supposed to air this past summer, but some delays have put it off until March of this year. Will we also get season 6 this summer, or is that a bit delayed too? Anyway, it's been a long time coming and I'm looking forward to new episodes.
Time to cover some upcoming movies I plan on seeing...
Hunger Games
Harry Potter or Twilight? That's the big 'debate'. With luck, the film will be good. I haven't seen the preview yet or anything, but the premise of the books has me intrigued enough that I own all 3 of them; which I will read after I'm done reading the published books in the Ice & Fire series.
Avengers
This is it! What Marvel's been doing since 2008 will lead to this. Now that all the individual super hero movies are done of the main starring members, it's time to team them up, and throw them in all in a film together! Hopefully, it'll turn out well. I imagine it will, but you never know. Either way, I'm there.
Prometheus
Ridley Scott's long-awaited film, which is part Alien prequel, part something else. From the look of the few pics I've seen, and some interviews at some panel's, looks to be quite spectacular. Keep an eye out for this one....
Amazing Spider-Man
At first, I was skeptical of this film, and the idea behind it; especially so soon after the other Spider-Man series. But gradually, and bit by it, it grew on me. It's mostly the cast that has me interested in this one. We'll see how it turns out....
Dark Knight Rises
The end of Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy. I saw the prologue, and it looks like it'll deliver (based on the opening scene and the clip montage at the end of said prologue). I hope they fix Bane's voice. I don't mind an accent, or voice modulation, or both, but I'm hoping for it to be clearer. I doubt if it needs to be fixed badly enough it'll delay the July release date. If I could only see one movie this year, that'll be the one.
Skyfall
OO7 is back at long last. Casino Royale was a great film, and the follow up while not so good, still enjoyable. I like these newer Bond films, that fit well with Mission Impossible & the Bourne series quite well. I only hope that Craig's commitment to Bond won't affect future adaptions of the Stieg Larrson books, one way or the other.
The Hobbit: Part 1
What they're doing to make a short book into two films, is they're adding in scenes & events that occurred about 60 years before Lord of the Rings began (which is when The Hobbit takes place), that were mentioned in Lord of the Rings, but not in the actual Hobbit book. This has been a long time coming, and judging from the pictures I've seen, it'll be quite good. We'll have and wait and see how good...
So aside from the above tv series & films, there's a few more things I'm looking forward to this year. First and foremost, time to move out. I may or not need a roommate, or someone to live with, but it'd be great if that happened this year. It all depends on work though, so we'll see if they keep me (or if I find a better job before then.). I'm not too picky where, as long as it's a good area, relatively close to everything, and not too pricey.
Also, there's Bluesfest! We don't yet know the lineup, but if enough people come that I'm interested in seeing, I'll get the festival pass.
Speaking of concerts, I'm not sure who plans to stop by this year, but we'll see what the upcoming months & schedule yield...
And of course there's other things too that may come up - traveling, love life (got my fingers crossed that something will work out..) etc.. It's the start of a new a year, so we'll see what will happen...
