Emmy Awards 2011 : Predicitions

What the Oscars are for movies, Grammys are for music, the Emmys are for TV. In this post, I take a look at the nominees, and share my thoughts.

Here we go....

Comedy Series

  • Big Bang Theory
  • Glee
  • Modern Family
  • The Office
  • Parks & Recreation
  • 30 Rock
The Dunphy family

Big Bang Theory shows what it's like being geeky / nerdy (in a positive way), though sometimes through self-degrading humour.

Well, I don't really watch comedy. The Office always gets the shaft, and I hate Glee. I do watch Big Bang Theory and Modern Family, so I'd like to see either of those win.

Drama Series

  • Boardwalk Empire
  • Dexter
  • Friday Night Lights
  • Game of Thrones
  • Good Wife
  • Mad Men
Boardwalk Empire is a quality new drama, looking to take on Mad Men & Game of Thrones

Holy shit, what a crazy race in the drama portion! Ok : Boardwalk Empire easily wins 'best new show' and is now one of my favorites.
Dexter is always great, but season 5 may be the series worst so far. NOT that it sucked, but the show has seen better.
Game of Thrones is terrific, but it has a 'niche' audience. And besides, the books are better. Nevertheless, HBO did a bang-up job 'presenting' them on screen.
Mad Men is fantastic. Always.
So... I'd like to see Boardwalk Empire or Mad Men win it. I'd like to see Game of Thrones, win but I don't think it's likely.

Game of Thrones is HBO's newest hit, but is it Emmy gold?

Lead Actor (Drama)

  • Steve Buscemi
  • Kyle Chandler
  • Michael C. Hall
  • Jon Hamm
  • Hugh Laurie
  • Timothy Olyphant
Meet TV's newest memorable character

At some point during the series' run, I'd love to see Michael C. Hall win an Emmy for Dexter. Seaosn 5 won't be it. The Emmy is Buscemi's. No nomination for John Noble for his role as Walter Bishop on Fringe though??

Lead Actor (Comedy)
  • Alec Baldwin
  • Steve Carell
  • Louis C.K.
  • Johnny Galecki
  • Matt LeBlanc
  • Jim Parsons
Will Michael Scott finally get awarded?

A double dose of Bazinga! While I'd love to see Jim Parsons or Johnny Galecki win, I think Steve Carell is long overdo.

Lead Actress (Comedy)

  • Edie Falco
  • Tina Fey
  • Laura Linney
  • Melissa McCarthy
  • Martha Plimpton
  • Amy Poelher
  Tina Fey!!!

Lead Actress (Drama)

  • Kathy Bates
  • Connie Britton
  • Mireille Enos
  • Mariska Hargitay
  • Julianna Margulies
  • Elisabeth Moss
Either Mireille or Elisabeth would win here.

Supporting Actor (Drama)

  • Andre Braugher
  • Josh Charles
  • Alan Cumming
  • Peter Dinklage
  • Walton Goggins
  • John Slattery
I'd like to see either Peter or John win this one.

Supporting Actor (Comedy)

  • Ty Burrell
  • Chris Colfer
  • Jon Cryer
  • Jesse Tyler Ferguson
  • Ed O'Neil
  • Eric Stonestreet
Yeah, go Modern Family! Now, who to pick? I'm a Phil Phan, so I pick Ty Burrell.

Supporting Actress (Drama)

  • Eileen Atkins
  • Michelle Forbes
  • Christina Hendricks
  • Kelly Macdonald
  • Margo Martindale
  •  Archine Panjabi
I'd love to see Christina's curves as she walks to accept the award....But in seriousness, she's terrific as Joan. (I'm not familiar with The Killing, as I haven't seen any episodes, but aside from Hendricks, I have no one to root for here.)

Supporting Actress (Comedy)

  • Julie Bowen
  • Jane Krakowski
  • Jane Lynch
  • Sofia Vergara
  • Betty White
  • Kristen Wiig
I have no preference, though i do like Jane Lynch's frightful cheek.

So that's my thoughts on the 'main' Emmy categories. I'll post the winners also.
