I'm almost embarrassed to write this post. Almost. As terrible as the franchise is, one thing they got right, in my mind, is the music. Read on....

I've read the Twilight books. Twilight. New Moon. Eclipse. Breaking Dawn. I saw the first film, but not the rest. How or why it's popular, is beyond me, and I covered that in a post before. There's better material out there for the target audience. Anyway, the focus of this post is the music.

The music supervisor is the same person responsible for the music of tv series such as The OC, Grey's and I believe Gossip Girl. Anyway, she is well versed in music, as the music from The OC was the highlight of the series. Death Cab, Phantom Planet and the Killers became popular and well-deserved attention. Grey's did likewise for Snow Patrol - I can't listen to 'Chasing cars' without bawling to this day. Now, Twilight has done it for Muse...and other bands. i admit, I was looking forward to the music of these films as they going for 'new blood' indie / alt bands...with a slightly darker / romantic edge. Some songs are slower, more melodic and even 'emo' (but not 'screamo') but it's all in good taste.

The soundtracks thus far have been quite good, with the third being the best, IMO so far. I've got Breaking Dawn Part 2 on at the moment for the first time. So I am glad the franchise is over for two reasons: a) No more crappy movies slabbed together as quickly as possible and b) We get another soundtrack.
