  At this point in the year, we have a pretty good idea on what Tolkien books will be published. In this post, though, I'll go through a few titles that don't exist - yet - in particular style, whether or not more will exist in said style. PAPERBACK VERSIONS OF HARDBACKS What this style is, is how a new book typically debuts in hardback and eBook (and sometimes as a slipcased edition), then the paperback comes out about 1-2 years afterwards. - Unfinished Tales (illustrated edition). This is a gamble as to whether or not it will come out. We have not yet had a re-publication of older titles as illustrated paperbacks. Given that it has come out somewhat recently, we'll see if this will exist as a paperback. 'ILLUSTRATED BY THE AUTHOR' EDITIONS This style is somewhat recent, featuring Tolkien's own artwork. This is essentially how I would see an edition of The Hobbit to fit in with the new 'illustrated by the author' series by HarperCollins. This began last year with The Lord of the Rings , and continued this year with The Silmarillion . So, next year would be The Hobbit ....? Going by how the other two titles looked, here's how I envision The Hobbit appearing, and having: - the colour of the foil on the spine, the cover, and page-edging would be bronze, or copper. - the 'main' colour of the book would be a nice, dark, emerald (much like in the photo above). This would also used for the coloured ink inside the book, as well as the ribbon-marker. - the same booklet about The Hobbit that came with the Facsimile Gift Set a few years ago (though perhaps with a different cover image to best suit this release.) - large posters of Thro...

  The time has come for me to issue my annual gift ideas relating to Tolkien. It should be noted that most of these don't change - primarily due to some of them being....everlasting, I suppose you could say.  There are some new items! But first, the 'classics' (meaning ones I've been on about for a few years in a row now!) Fantastic 'starter edition' to get someone new to Tolkien, or if you need another paperback copy. THE LORD OF THE RINGS Part 1: ISBN: 9780008376062 Part 2: ISBN: 9780008376079 Part 3: ISBN: 9780008376086 These are great paperback editions of The Lord of the Rings . Nothing special or fancy, but a good 'template' paperback set.
