Kalvel Playlist the First

This evening I created a playlist comprised of music I oft listen to while writing, especially The Kalvel Chronicles. I usually put on entire albums, but here is a 'greatest hits' (so far....) of some of the music I listen to, and favourite tracks. I hope, as well providing some great music, you get a 'feel' for the world I'm creating here. Consider this a sneak peek.

The playlist:

An Update!

It's been a while since I've given an update guess what? Here's one!

"Edge of Eternity" Cover Art

Edge of Eternity, the third and final book in Ken Follett's Century Trilogy will be released in fall 2014. This is the North American (and also Canadian) cover artwork. More details to come. Looks good, I've got the other two books in hardback and the same design style. Great to see it match!

Out to Buy - "Boardwalk Empire" season 3

This is a few days late, but earlier this week season three of Boardwalk Empire is out to buy on DVD & blu-ray, just in time for season 4 to start on HBO. While not one of my favorite shows, I do enjoy it & recommend it. Give it a shot.

A Note on TV Drama

First and foremost, I like a story the most. I enjoy action and special effects if there's a need for it and they fit in with the story being told. With that in mind, let me look at TV DVD collection.

Battlestar Galactica
Mad Men
The Tudors

On my list of ones to get :

Breaking Bad
Game of Thrones (already watch but don't own)
The Newsroom
Sherlock (already watch but don't own)

So as you can see, I quite like drama TV. I also really like some drama films, but lately TV has been do good, you can don't have to go to the theatre to find a good story. On my list of ones to get, they will most likely be blind buys due to the overwhelming reception I've heard from friends with similar tastes, & critics (those who I agree with).

Interest on Netflix

On Netflix, I've discovered a really good underrated show; well underrated in comparison to some of the others I've mentioned - Damages. It presents its story in an interesting narrative, and is very well acted and written. And you're always guessing. Even if you 'call it', how you get there is still good. And it has two very powerful female leads. Now over at five seasons; I'm about 1/4 way through season three. I recommend it.

Another series thats's on Netflix that I am interested in is Hell on Wheels. The show is property of AMC, and with Breaking Bad ending this year and Mad Men the year after, this could be AMC's go-to for quality drama. I'd suggest Walking Dead, but the past little bit has seen a big drop in quality. And that hiatus doesn't help. For the upcoming season I'm going to wait until all the episodes air before checking it out.

Speaking of Netflix, I should mention House of Cards. This series is 'cutting edge' in that you don't have to wait a week for the next episode. At a specified date, the whole season was uploaded. It is also one of the shows 'airing' on Netflix. (Other shows are broadcasted on their own networks first, then come to Netflix.). This series has been getting huge acclaim, and since I subscribe, I'll definitely check it out.

Homeland is now on Netflix, but I've been interested in it before. It's about a US marine who comes back from the war as a hero, but someone intend CIA believes and has potential proof that he's been turned by the enemy while over there and is planning an attack.

A high school chemistry teacher learns he has terminal cancer and begins making crystal methto secure his family's financial future. One of the most acclaimed shows in a while (and with a strong following!) is Breaking Bad. The series ends Sept. 39 so on the 30 I'll begin watching it.

And finally, one to recommend......

One show that I enjoy watching (tho I admit it's not among my favourites) is Boardwalk Empire. A drama set in the 1920s in Atlantic City, the show is a gangster drama, and could be well a prequel to The Sopranos in terms if style and quality. Because I watch a far bit of TV (throughout the year) like Walking Dead, I'm going to wait until the season finishes airing before beginning to watch.

So that's my post on drama TV shows! At some point in my life I may check out some older series such as The Wire. That's my list for now, which may also include The Killing via Netflix. Hopefully this post has also got you I the rested in some shows too.
